MY APPROACH TO
BLACK & WHITE
Black and white is the style where you cannot hide. There is no warm or cool hue to mask a proportion error, no pigment to distract the eye from poorly executed shading. What remains is only light, shadow and the quality of the gesture. That is exactly why it is the style I love most: because it demands precision, and that precision shows.
Before starting any black and white piece, I study how light behaves on the subject and decide where to place the zones of maximum saturation and where instead to let the natural skin act as white. This choice is not aesthetic: it is structural. A black and white piece without a light plan loses depth within months, the mid-grey zones fade to a single flat tone and the subject loses all its three-dimensionality.
For each phase of the work I use different needles: saturation needles for the deep black areas, shader needles to build the soft grey transitions, and even finer configurations for detail. The tonal progression I achieve runs from absolute black to the natural white of the skin in a continuous flow, with no harsh jumps. It is those intermediate tones that make the difference between a tattoo that looks three-dimensional and one that looks drawn on flat paper.
I work on portraits, naturalistic subjects, abstract compositions and geometric designs. I receive clients from Rome, Ostia, Civitavecchia and the Fiumicino airport area.
